Apache Helicopter Crashes in Albania

HAWK BASE, Albania — An Army AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed about 10 pm Monday, April 26 approximately 50 kilometers north of Tirana-Rinas airport. The aircraft was conducting a training mission in support of Operation Allied Force.

The aircraft and crew of two are assigned to Task Force Hawk. A medical evacuation helicopter was immediately launched which recovered the crew and returned them to the 212th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) here where they were treated for minor injuries.

The aircraft was destroyed as a result of the crash. There are no initial indications of hostile fire. The cause of the crash is under investigation.    (News story provided by DOD)
